🚗 Driver Felt 'Conned' Over Parking Fine in Beverley Square

Motorists in Beverley’s Saturday Market Square are frustrated over unclear road markings that have led to hundreds of parking fines. Angela Allen, 64, says she felt "totally conned" after receiving a £70 fine, despite believing she had paid correctly. Her appeal was rejected, though she had the option to reduce the fine to £35 if paid within 30 days.

The number of fines issued in the square has surged, with 732 tickets given out so far this financial year, compared to 510 in 2022-23. Locals report that 5 to 10 people per week are caught out by the changes, which have left old parking bay markings visible despite pedestrianisation efforts and altered turning spaces.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council insists that red signs now clearly indicate no-parking zones and urges drivers to pay close attention to signage. However, some residents argue the remaining road markings are misleading, leading to unintentional violations. Calls for better clarity and improved signage continue as more drivers find themselves penalised. More

🏗️ DIY SOS Bringing a 'Big Build' to Beverley

Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team are launching a 'Big Build' project in Beverley to create a new youth club at Cherry Tree Community Centre. A trade briefing is set for April 16, with construction from May 14-21 and a big reveal on May 23. Volunteers and local businesses are encouraged to help. More
