🌊 £809,000 boost for East Yorkshire flood defence schemes
Three coastal flood defence projects in East Yorkshire have been awarded a combined £809,000 from the UK Government’s new £2.65 billion investment package.
The schemes include Hornsea Mere and Water Level and Quality (£500,000), Hornsea Sea Defence Improvement (£269,000), and Barmston Sea End Outfall (£40,000), plus initiatives in Beverley and Jull. These are part of a wider effort to improve over 1,000 flood defences nationwide.
The funding will help protect homes, businesses, and communities from rising flood risks, with an emphasis on collaboration between local councils and the Environment Agency. Officials highlighted the importance of resilience as climate change brings more extreme weather. More
